The World’s Thinnest Smartphone ‘KY-O1L’ is Size of Credit Card

Smart phone users are usually satisfied with their large screen display phones, some prefer compact and pocket size devices too.

For this target market, Japanese company Kyocera has come up with a device that is positioned as the “thinnest smartphone in the world.”

The device is called the KY-O1L, and it’s built specifically to fit inside a business card holder. For that, the phone has been given the nickname of the “card phone.”

The KY-O1L will be 5.3mm thick and weighs a measly 47g, making it also one of the lightest devices around. On top of that, the device boasts LTE connectivity and a 2.8-inch monochrome epaper display. Powered by a 380mAh battery, which should be more than enough for a phone with an epaper display.

Speculations are in air about labeling this device as the World’s Thinnest Smart Phone or not. According to the news sources, the 2016 Moto Z came in at only 5.2mm, although it excludes the camera setup. Before that, there was the Oppo R5, which was 4.9mm thick. However, none of those phones offer the same adorable basic-ness as the world’s thinnest smart phone claimed‘KY-O1L’.

Whether it is truly the thinnest phone or just one of them, it’s still an interesting device.

Talking about the user interface of the device, it offers everything a regular phone needs, though there is no app marketplace. This device is suitable choice for those that need something to make calls and text people, with the occasional news reading online. There’s also no camera so don’t expect to click snaps with this device.

The Kyocera KY-O1L price in Pakistan is expected to be PKR 37470. Currently this device is only available in Japan only, so we cannot predict its early launch in Pakistan.

Smaller phones may be a growing trend. Just recently Palm took the wraps off of a new smart phone that’s specifically aimed at reducing people’s addiction to their phones. The device syncs to your primary phone, so you’ll get all your notifications and calls.
