Pakistani architecture varies from place to place – every part of Pakistan caters to different people who prefer living in different types of homes, due to a number of reasons.

The choice of different architecture comes after taking many issues in account – the environment, weather, the locals and most of all.. their budget. However, a home is a home – and everybody loves their own the same.

Here are a few absolutely phenomenal, cultural and traditional houses that native people live in from all over Pakistan.
 

1. Houses in Thar, Sindh

These huts are called “Chaunras” – one hut rooms with roofs that are thatched and the rest of the building is made out of mud.


2. Houses in Gilgit-Baltistan

These traditional stone-wood houses in Gilgit-Baltistan have been around for decades. Perfectly carved pieces of beautiful stones are put on mud walls to make them look amazing.


 

3. Houses in Kalash Valley, Chitral

These extraordinary wood, glass and stone structures in Kalash Valley of Chitral are a treat to look and live in. Not overly expensive, these simple houses are real structural marvels.


 

4. Houses in Jammu & Kashmir

The simple lifestyle of Kashmir calls for simple houses, with wood borders, thatched roofs and small cottages.


5. Houses in rural Punjab

Rural Punjab caters to simple blocked mud houses with wooden entrances – such is the condition of almost all of Pakistan’s rural areas.


6. Houses in rural Balochistan

The only difference between mud houses of rural Balochistan and rest of Pakistan is that the mud is carved in traditional Balochi embroidery as shown in the picture.


7. Houses in Swat Valley

The wood carved houses of Swat are a treat to live in, with the cold weather in full swing – it turns more beautiful when you can sight the Darya-e-Swat.


8. Houses in Quetta, Balochistan

Shaalkot as Quetta is called (wrapped in the mountains) – blocks of houses jumbled together to form societies is how the locals prefer it in extremely cold weather. Some houses are even built on the mountains.
