RAWALPINDI: Boys clinched the first two positions in the Higher Secondary
School Certificate (HSSC) annual examination 2014.
However, the top positions went to private colleges and the students of
government colleges failed to achieve any distinction, exposing the poor
performance of government-run educational institutions.
Mohammad Nashit Khurshid of the Punjab College of Information, Satellite Town,
bagged the overall first position by getting 1024 out of the total 1100 marks
while Talha Shakeel from the same institute remained second with 1014 marks. The
third overall position was grabbed by Rida Nawaz of the Punjab College for
Girls, Chakwal.
The controller examinations BISE announced the results at a ceremony in which
Punjab Minister for Labour Raja Ashfaq Sarwar as the chief guest. The minister
also distributed prizes among the position holders. The overall pass percentage
in the exam remained 47.87. A total of 59261 candidates appeared in the exam out
of whom only 30161 could get through.
