Ingredients
  1. 8 oz. black gram dhal
  2. 2 cloves garlic
  3. 2 green chillis oil for frying
  4. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  5. 1 teaspoon powdered cummin seeds
  6. Salt to taste A little water
Method
  • Soak dhal for 1 hour in water. Mince garlic and chillis. Heat oil in a pan. Fry garlic, chillis, turmeric and cummin seeds for three minutes. Drain dhal and add to spices. Fry for five minutes. Add salt and water, cover and cook gently till tender and dry.
  • Note: Preparation time 5 minutes, Cooking time 40 minutes, To serve 4
