ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday issued show cause notice to Prime Minister Imran Khan for not holding intra-party elections within time. As per the Election Act, 2017, all the political parties are bound to hold intra party elections on time. The Commission also issued show cause notice to Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and Baluchistan Awami Party (BAP) for failing to hold the intra-party elections. The Commission asked Imran Khan to respond to the ECP notice within next 14 days. ECP in its official notification said that in terms of Section 215 (4) of the Election Act, 2017, you are required to show cause as to why your party should not be declared ineligible to election symbol if it has not conducted intra-party elections yet. Citing the constitutional parameters in the notification, it said that section 209 with rule 158 of Election Rules, 2017, a political party within seven days from completion of the intra party elections submit a certificate signed by an office bearer authorized by the party head to the Commission.
