Virender Sehwag Praises Warm Welcome in Pakistan During 2003 Tour

Virender Sehwag, the former Indian Test cricketer, recently shared his memorable experience during India’s 2003 tour of Pakistan. In an interview on a popular web show, Sehwag expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome they received from the Pakistani people.

Recalling their visit, Sehwag highlighted the immense love and affection they experienced throughout their tour. He specifically mentioned an incident that took place before the second Test in Lahore. Sehwag and his teammates decided to go shopping, and he personally purchased 30 to 35 traditional Pakistani suits for his family from a local market. However, to his surprise, the shopkeeper refused to accept payment, explaining that he couldn’t take money from a guest who had come to their country.

Sehwag expressed his appreciation for the generosity and love they encountered from the people of Pakistan. He described the overwhelming emotions they felt, noting that the shared history and stories associated with India before the partition of Hindustan brought tears to their eyes.

It’s worth mentioning that the India cricket team embarked on the tour of Pakistan in 2003, participating in five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Test matches. India emerged victorious in the ODI series with a 3-2 win and secured a 2-1 triumph in the Test series.

This heartwarming account from Virender Sehwag sheds light on the camaraderie and goodwill exchanged between the players and fans of both nations during a historic cricket tour.
