Maria's life was filled with unimaginable suffering, trapped in a cycle of abuse by her family because reportedly "she was being sexually abused by her brother and father for two years".
The pain she endured, both mentally and physically, must have been immense.
Maria bibi a 22 years old had been strangled to death by her brother in the presence of her father.
She was killed on March 17.
Maria's family tried their best to keep this heinous incident a secret.
But after 10 days, A video started to circulate on the internet that was made secretly by Maria's close relative where it could be seen how Maria's brother (Muhammad Faisal) was choking her to death and his father was appreciating him in the process.
The video broke the Internet.
As the video went viral NCHR immediately took notice of the incident.
NCHR Punjab coordinator himself visited Toba Tek Singh and recorded the statements of neighbors and relatives.
NCHR became party to the legal proceedings of the case.
The police arrested the accused as the video went viral.
On the hearing before court, police requested for 14 days remand. However, 4 days of remand was granted by the court.
Kamran Zafar, Maria's elder brother lawyer announced to withdraw his advocacy in this case by saying "He could not represent the beasts".
According to the police Maria's family quietly buried her to keep it secret.
The murder was committed to hide the forceful illicit relationship of her brother with Maria.
The case is still being actively pursued. Hopefully they receive the punishment they deserve for their actions.
