ISLAMABAD   -  Foreign Office on Friday castigated India for New Delhi’s ‘gratuitous, unwarranted and baseless remarks’ regarding the references to Jammu and Kashmir in the joint press release issued on the occasion of 3rd Session of Strategic Dialogue between the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and China.

Responding to the statement by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said: “We reject the gratuitous, unwarranted and baseless remarks made by the Spokesperson of the Indian MEA. India has no locus standi on the matter whatsoever.”

Jammu and Kashmir, he said, was an internationally recognized dispute. “Parts of the State of Jammu and Kashmir are under illegal Indian occupation. The Jammu and Kashmir dispute is the oldest item on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council, pending resolution due to Indian intransigence,” he added.

Jammu and Kashmir never was and never will be so-called ‘integral part’ of India, he added.

Chaudhri said numerous United Nations Security Council resolutions had established that the final disposition of the State of Jammu and Kashmir will be made in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people expressed through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite held under the UN auspices.

“India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019, seeking to alter the internationally recognized disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir, and to change the demographic structure of the occupied territory, are in clear violation of the UN Charter, relevant UNSC resolutions, and international law,” he said.

Pakistan has categorically rejected the false, untenable and self-serving comments made by the Spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on the recently concluded elections in the Azad State of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued on Friday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri also said that Pakistan considers Troika Plus an important forum to facilitate the Afghan peace process.

Responding to media queries regarding the Troika Plus meeting to be held in Doha, he said Pakistan has been participating in the format regularly.

The Spokesperson said Pakistan looks forward to the Troika Plus meeting in Doha, which will review the current situation in Afghanistan. He said Pakistan will continue to support efforts to achieve a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan.
