17 died as strong 7.8-magnitude earthquake hits southern Turkiye
In Turkiye, at least 17 people were killed after a powerful earthquake of 7.8 magnitude hit south-eastern part of the country this morning.

According to the US Geological Survey, the quake had a depth of 17.9 km with an epicentre near the city of Gaziantep.

The quake was also felt in the capital Ankara and other Turkish cities, as well as across the region.

According to initial reports, several buildings have collapsed, and a number of people may be trapped under the debris.
