Huawei excitingly unveils the foldable Mate X specs and release date

When Huawei unveiled the foldable Mate X phone at MWC 2019 earlier this year, it became clear the Chinese company had a much better design on its hands than Samsung, which announced the Galaxy Fold just a few days earlier.

The Mate X’s stunning looks stole the show in Barcelona this year, making us forget about all the other flagships that launched at the same mobile event.

The Mate X has been listed on the company’s official online store, sporting a June 2019 launch date. The price for China hasn’t been listed, but the phone is expected to be equally expensive when it finally hits stores.

Huawei describes the device as one that is going to revolutionize the world of smart phones, especially when the design and the technology are taken into the perspective.

The main screen of Mate X measures 6.6 inches, which is pretty big, has a pixel resolution of 2480 x 1148. According to the company, it is this display that is referred to as the main screen and is likely to engage the users most of the time and the reasons for creating such a big screen become clear.

On the other hand, the back screen of Mate X is 6.38 inches with 2480 x 2200 as the pixel resolution. When you fold open the device, you will come across an amazing 8-inch OLED tablet screen with 2480 x 2200 pixel resolution.

It seems that the combination of the screens in Huawei Mate X can make things extremely interesting, a single screen, measuring about 8-inches. While unfolding the device to the flat OLED panel, it reveals fully without any dividing line with minimal or no creasing at all. However, we are not yet sure whether the OLED screen will hold up and there are more chances it can bend. But there must be an adequate coating to protect it and the plastic in the exterior may be susceptible to scratches. It may be the reason that Huawei is producing a comprehensive cover case accessory.

The unfolding process of the Huawei Mate X is driven by what the company calls the Falcon Hinge situated beneath the screen curvature to ensure that both sides of the device lie flat when it is folded, making the folded phone just about 11 mm thick, which is slim enough. When the phone is unfolded, it stays at about 5.4 mm thick compared to Galaxy Fold from Samsung, which stays at about 17 mm thick.

Furthermore, ripples could be viewed when the phone was folded making the screen appear less smooth than expected.

With three camera lenses on the Mate X, and all facing a single direction, the expectations are building up for now. Selfies are taken with the same camera lenses that are used for taking the regular pictures, which is an added advantage of having a screen on the rear and the front of the phone.

While taking pictures of others, they can see themselves on the screen to adjust the expression and the posture. No one is quite sure about more camera details of the device right now, but according to Huawei, it is going to be a brand new addition, built using Leica lenses, with a 40-megapixel wide angle lens and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens along with an 8-megapixel telephoto lens.
