Morne Morkel resigns as Pakistan bowling coach

Morne Morkel resigns as Pakistan bowling coach

Morkel, hailing from South Africa, had initially inked a deal with the PCB, specifying his tenure until the 2023 World Cup in India.

However, following the disappointing performance of Pakistan bowlers under his coaching during the tournament, Morkel has expressed his disinterest in continuing the association, formally notifying the PCB about his decision.

The contractual agreement with the former South African pacer was officially declared on June 17, but due to prior commitments, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), he joined the national team later than expected.

Unfortunately, his delayed involvement coincided with a subpar performance by the Pakistani bowling unit, falling short of the anticipated standards.

The spotlight now turns to the crucial upcoming series of three Test matches against Australia, as the national team seeks redemption from its World Cup woes. In preparation for this challenging task, a training camp is slated to kick off in Rawalpindi from November 20, marking the beginning of earnest efforts to regain form and momentum.

Gul, who temporarily assumed coaching responsibilities during Morkel's absence in the recent series against Afghanistan, brings a wealth of experience and familiarity with the team dynamics.
