Hamid Saeed Kazmi is a Pakistani politician and religious scholar. He joined the Pakistan People's Party in the 1990s and won election to the National Assembly in 2008. He served as Federal Minister for Religious Affairs from 2008 to 2010. He is known as a vocal critic of the Taliban. Hamid survived an assassination attempt in 2009 that killed his driver and guard. He also faced allegations in the Hajj corruption scandal. Courts sentenced him to 16 years in prison in 2016, while higher courts acquitted him in 2017. He ran as an independent in the 2018 elections and lost. He currently continues to be a popular Sunni scholar.
