He was born in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, on 16th August, 1968 and studied at the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, after his schooling in Bhopal. Mishra started his acting career on TV in the show 'Swabhimaan' in 1995 and his film debut was ‘Sardari Begum' in 1996. He found fame in Rockstar (2011) and then with the films Raanjhanaa, Airlift, Sultan, Rustom, Article 15, Thappad and Ram Singh Charlie. He has recently worked on Assi, Dhabkaaro and Satrangi: Badle Ka Khel in 2026. He is married to actress Ayesha Raza Mishra and has a son, Kabir.
