She was born on October 29, 1983, in Chicago, Illinois. She comes from a prominent family; her mother, Valerie Jarrett, was a senior advisor to President Barack Obama. Laura studied at Amherst College before earning her law degree from Harvard Law School in 2010.
She worked as a litigation attorney in Chicago for several years before switching to television news. She joined CNN in 2016 as a legal reporter in Washington, D.C., and later co-anchored Early Start before moving to NBC News in late 2022.
