Lawrence O'Donnell is an American television anchor, political commentator, Hollywood screenwriter, and producer. He hosts The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell, an evening news and opinion program airing weeknights on MSNBC.
Born on November 12, 1951, in Boston, Massachusetts, O'Donnell grew up in a Catholic family and attended St. Sebastian's School. He earned a degree in economics from Harvard University in 1976. Before entering television news, O'Donnell worked as an aide to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, serving as the staff director for the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the Senate Finance Committee.
In addition to his political career, he was a key writer and executive producer for the hit NBC drama series The West Wing, winning an Emmy Award for his production work. He joined MSNBC as an analyst before securing his prime-time show in 2010.
