Mariam Ghani is an American multidisciplinary artist, filmmaker, photographer, installation artist, writer, and educator. She also teaches as adjunct faculty at Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts. She was born in 1978 in Brooklyn, New York, while her Afghan parents lived in exile during the Soviet-Afghan War. She is the daughter of Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, former president of Afghanistan.
The Mariam Ghani biography states that she earned a B.A. in Comparative Literature from New York University and an M.F.A. in Photography and Video from the School of Visual Arts, New York.
Ghani’s notable projects include What We Left Unfinished, The Trespassers and The City & The City, and Index of the Disappeared. Her work has been exhibited at major venues, including the Guggenheim and MoMA in New York, the Sharjah Biennial, dOCUMENTA (13), and the Rotterdam Film Festival.
