An American politician and businesswoman, Marsha Blackburn was born on 6 June 1952 in Laurel, Mississippi. She is currently a U.S. senator from Tennessee. Blackburn received a degree from Mississippi State University and started her career in sales and marketing before going into politics. She was elected to the Tennessee State Senate, and in 2002, she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives representing Tennessee's 7th Congressional District. Blackburn was the first woman to represent Tennessee in the U.S Senate. She has been active in technology, telecommunications, healthcare, consumer protection and other issues, all as a Republican. Blackburn has also continued to remain active in the Tennessee entertainment and music scene. Her career has established her as a well-known and dominant voice in Tennessee politics and one of the state’s most recognisable political leaders.
