Some claimed he was shot by an unknown assailant, while others stated that he died from an accidental gunshot wound when a gun discharged unexpectedly. However, local police asserted that Maulana Tariq Jamil's son Asim Jamil took his own life.

A statement from the Regional Police Office (RPO) in Multan confirmed that Asim Jamil committed suicide, and the District Police Officer (DPO) of the area had reviewed CCTV footage depicting the incident. The RPO Multan revealed that Tariq Jamil's son had been grappling with mental health issues and had been under medication for several years.

Maulana Yousaf Jamil, Tariq Jamil's eldest son, released a video statement confirming that his younger brother Asim Jamil had been battling depression. He disclosed that the deceased had asked his servant, Iman, to bring a pistol and was prevented by his employee when Jamil aimed the gun at his own chest.

Additionally, it was noted that Asim Jamil had chosen to marry a woman, but the marriage ended in divorce.
