Maz Saleem father was Mohammed Saleem, a retired 82-year-old from Birmingham. On 29 April 2013, he was stabbed to death while returning home from Green Lane Mosque. He was stabbed by Pavlo Lapshyn, a Ukrainian neo-Nazi who also carried out bomb attacks outside several mosques. Lapshyn admitted that he targeted him to start a race war and spread fear among Muslims.
