Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai is an Afghan political figure and a senior Taliban leader. He serves as Acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs. The Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai biography records that he was born in 1963 in Baraki Barak District, Logar Province, Afghanistan. He belongs to the Pashtun Stanikzai tribe.
He initially served as a lieutenant in the Afghan Army before defecting during the Soviet invasion and joining groups such as Harakat-i-Inqilab-i-Islami and Ittehad-e-Islami. He joined the Taliban in the mid-1990s and served as deputy foreign minister and later deputy health minister during the first Taliban regime from 1996 to 2001.
Fluent in English, Pashto, and Dari, he has often been described as one of the more urbane and outward-facing Taliban officials. In 2025, he publicly spoke in favor of girls’ education and women’s rights and later left Afghanistan for the UAE.
