Oscar Pistorius is a South African former Paralympian and one of the most popular disabled sprinters in the world. He was born on November 22, 1986, in Johannesburg, South Africa, without fibulas, and had both legs amputated below the knee as an infant. He later went on to compete in Paralympic sports with special carbon fiber prostheses, with great success. Pistorius won many Paralympic gold medals and was nicknamed "the Blade Runner". He competed at the London Olympics in 2012, where he was the first double-leg amputee to participate in a track competition at the Olympic Games. His sports career was then overshadowed by his conviction for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013. He was arrested and charged with murder and sentenced to a long prison sentence. Pistorius was discharged on parole in January 2024. His life is a very disputed one in international sports history.
