Umme Rubab Chandio is a Pakistani lawyer, human rights activist, and author. She is known as the Brave Daughter of Sindh. After the murder of her father, grandfather, and uncle in 2018, she fought her own legal case for eight years despite receiving life threats.
She gained national attention in 2021 when a video of her walking barefoot out of a courtroom went viral. She also stopped the vehicle of the then Chief Justice Saqib Nisar to demand justice. The Umme Rubab Chandio case began on January 17, 2018, when armed men attacked her family home. Her father, grandfather, and paternal uncle were all gunned down in the same attack.
The murders were linked to her family's formation of a Tumandar Council that challenged the local tribal chieftain system. A FIR was registered against MPAs Sardar Ahmed Chandio and Burhan Khan Chandio, former SHO Karim Bux Chandio, and five others. The case was transferred multiple times across courts, including ATCs in Naushahro Feroze, Sukkur, Mirpur Mathelo, and finally Dadu.
Despite some arrests, a 2020 police inquiry gave the accused MPAs a clean chit, citing insufficient evidence. On March 30, 2026, the Dadu Model Criminal Trial Court acquitted all eight accused. 450 police personnel were deployed for security during the verdict. Umme Rubab has vowed to appeal the verdict and continue her fight.
