He came in spotlight back in late 1980’s as the founding members of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front(JKLF). This organization initially advocated for armed struggle to secure independence for Kashmir on both sides of the border, However back in 1994 Yasin announced to change his strategy by renouncing violence and declaring a commitment to peaceful, political resistance.
