Abu Wa'il narrated: Ali said to Abu Al-Hayyaj Al-Asadi: 'I am dispatching you with what the Prophet dispatched me: That you not leave an elevated grave without leveling it, nor an image without erasing it.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا، قَالَ لِأَبِي الْهَيَّاجِ الْأَسَدِيّ:‏‏‏‏ أَبْعَثُكَ عَلَى مَا بَعَثَنِي بِهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَنْ لَا تَدَعَ قَبْرًا مُشْرِفًا إِلَّا سَوَّيْتَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تِمْثَالًا إِلَّا طَمَسْتَهُ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَابِرٍ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ عَلِيٍّ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ بَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَكْرَهُونَ أَنْ يُرْفَعَ الْقَبْرُ فَوْقَ الْأَرْضِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ:‏‏‏‏ أَكْرَهُ أَنْ يُرْفَعَ الْقَبْرُ إِلَّا بِقَدْرِ مَا يُعْرَفُ أَنَّهُ قَبْرٌ لِكَيْلَا يُوطَأَ وَلَا يُجْلَسَ عَلَيْهِ.

ابووائل شقیق بن سلمہ کہتے ہیں کہ   علی رضی الله عنہ نے ابوالہیاج اسدی سے کہا: میں تمہیں ایک ایسے کام کے لیے بھیج رہا ہوں جس کے لیے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے بھیجا تھا: ”تم جو بھی ابھری قبر ہو، اسے برابر کئے بغیر اور جو بھی مجسمہ ہو ۱؎، اسے مسمار کئے بغیر نہ چھوڑنا“ ۲؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- علی کی حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- اس باب میں جابر سے بھی روایت ہے، ۳- بعض اہل علم کا اسی پر عمل ہے۔ وہ قبر کو زمین سے بلند رکھنے کو مکروہ ( تحریمی ) قرار دیتے ہیں، ۴- شافعی کہتے ہیں کہ قبر کے اونچی کئے جانے کو میں مکروہ ( تحریمی ) سوائے اتنی مقدار کے جس سے معلوم ہو سکے کہ یہ قبر ہے تاکہ وہ نہ روندی جائے اور نہ اس پر بیٹھا جائے۔
