Wool might seem like one of the more functional - and
possibly dull - materials an artist could use in their work.
But for Eszter Burghardt, it is the source of much inspiration.
The Canadian-Hungarian artist, who is based in Vancouver, has created a
series of stunning designs using only wool.

Named 'Wooly Sagas', Burghardt has put together the variety of craggy
landscapes for her latest collection.
And so convincing are the dioramas, it is hard to believe they are made
only from wool.
Inspired by the scenic beauty she witnessed during artist residencies in
Iceland, Burghardt has tried to re-create a number of dramatic scenes.

And the resulting series clearly owes much to the wonderfully varied
environment of the wildlands of the country.
From volcanoes in the midst of an eruption to icy pools of water, the
scenes all have in common the use of wool in their composition.
So inspired is the dual nationality artist, that she has now returned to
Iceland three times in order to find more creative fuel for her work.

Despite planning to spend this coming August away from Iceland, however,
the artist looks set to continue her innovative use of wool.
Her upcoming series, which she intends to work on in the Canadian Arctic
on Baffin Island, is entitled 'In Sheep's Clothing'. |
