The father of a baby boy who was saved after his
pushchair was blown into water at a harbour by a gust of wind said he
fell in a "split second".
Six-month-old Sam Cooper-Stevens was swept into the water at Watchet
Harbour, Somerset, on Sunday.

His father Martyn Stevens ran to the scene from his house 500 yards away
as harbourmaster George Reeder pulled the boy out of the water.
Mr Stevens said everybody involved in the rescue had been "brilliant".

Harbourmaster Mr Reeder jumped into the water after Sam's mother Kate
Cooper raised the alarm.
The pram, with Sam still strapped inside, was pulled back up the harbour
after a rope was lowered.

The boy was then resuscitated after spending up to five minutes in the
water.
'Pretty amazing'
"The temperature of the water... and the pram is probably what saved
him," said Mr Stevens.
He added that the medical staff at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton,
where the boy was treated, had been "pretty amazing".

|
"I want to say thank you to everyone that helped out," he added.
"The response of everyone was amazing and I don't think you can get any
better than that. It goes to show Watchet is a great place."
Mr Stevens said Sam looked "angry" in hospital because of all of the
tubes attached to him but was otherwise doing well.

"When I left last night he was 90% better than he was," he said.
"Within two hours he was reacting to everything and the doctors came
running to see him do that." |
