It might not have been a blockbuster hit, but
'Southland Tales' was been able to almost perfectly predict the future.
This dramatic comedy film by Richard Kelly came out in 2006 -- keep
reading to check out how creepily accurate it was!

Fingerprinting Devices
The new iPhone 5s showcased the innovative fingerprint access pad. For
fans of Southland Tales, this was old news. In Richard Kelly's version
of the future, fingerprints were used to access everything, including
ATM access. |

Oceanic Power Generators
One big concept featured in the film is the use of ocean generators to
create renewable energy. While similar technology does exist, offshore
wind farms are becoming popular in real life. In late 2013, Belgium
announced their plans to produce one of the largest ocean-based wind
farms in the world. Of course, solar energy and geothermal energy are
popular as well. |

Troubles in Syria
One of the main causes for World War 3 in Southland Tales were nuclear
bomb attacks in Syria. Four years after the movie's release, a civil war
broke out in the country that still continues today. Increased chemical
attacks in recent months, but the US military hasn't been able to act,
due to fear of a world war. |

Smart TVs
Within the first five minutes of Southland Tales, viewers are treated
with a recap of World War 3. What initially looks like some fancy power
point display is actually a television. In the past couple of years
Smart TVs have taken over the market, which is removing the need for
satellite TV. You can watch multiple shows at once, read live news
feeds, and use the Internet. |

Internet Spying
The government branch known as the USID in Southland Tales spies on
people and gathers as much information as they need. Recent events have
seem to been taken right from the film. Leaked information from the NSA
shows their spying on citizen's email accounts, cell phones and access
to a ton of private information.

Texas Explosions
The very first scene in Southland Tales features a nuclear bomb blast in
Texas that sends a giant cloud of smoke into the air. Thousands of Texas
citizens witnessed the same exact thing in April of 2013 during the
devestating fertilizer plant explosion. The screenshots from the movie
and the images from the explosions are so similar it's eerie.

State Line Checkpoints
After the fictional World War 3, states became permanently divided and
passports were needed to get to each one. In real life, interstate
checkpoints have dramatically increased, including several permanent
check points in states like California, Arizona and Texas.

Alternative Energy Sources
After fighting gets so bad in countries that the US relies on for oil,
citizens and companies are forced to rely on alternative fuels. Today,
the rise of electric cars and even the return of diesel cars are making
a huge impact. The ultimate goal is less reliability on foreign oil
fields, to prevent the wars that were featured in the movie.

Airbus Planes
The climax of Southland Tales takes place on a giant Zeppelin. While the
massive airships have not regained popularity, airports are getting one
step closer with the massive Airbus planes. These multi-decker planes
feature multiple floors and cruise through the sky with ease. No word on
if any contain the Baron's secret office. |
