Most of us believe that the best thing about Ramadan
is delicious food, and night matches. Sadly, no one realizes that we
will be having a month without the influence of Satan. There will be no
one to manipulate our minds to have sinful thoughts or motivate us to
commit something wrong.
This hypothesis is drawn from the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that
narrates that:
“O ye people the blessed month of Ramadan is approaching and Allah has
ordained for you to fast in this month and in this month gates of heaven
will be opened and the gates of the hell will be closed and the devils
will be chained, in this month is a night which is better than thousand
months and a person who is deprived of the blessings of this month is
truly a deprived person”.
The question arises; if the Satan is chained how can the minds still
gets corrupted? This is because not all sins are reflection of satanic
whispers; evil soul can surely drive you to commit sins. It is evident
that putting devils in chains during Ramadan does not mean that they
cannot persuade people who are not abiding by the laws of Allah. Those
who reflect the true essence of fasting are saved from satanic spell.

Philosophy of Chaining the Devil
It is the ultimate blessing one can have. Lessening the influence of
devil is the major goal. It is evident that chaining the devil in
Ramadan means restricting them to persuade those who have true
intensions of staying away from sins. There is a contradiction in this
regard. Many people think Devil does not exist in Ramadan; it very much
exists. Devil is restricted but not killed. This can be explained with
an example of a roaring lion. A free lion is dangerous than the chained
lion. Free lion can attack and kill you brutally. However, you can save
yourself by maintaining a proper distance. Similarly, in the month of
Ramadan if you intend to stay away from sins and seek forgiveness and
mercy from the Almighty; you will be saved. Devils cannot approach those
who fast for Allah’s blessings. It is all about intentions.
Allah Almighty says in Surah Baqarah Ch. 2 verse 168:
“Be careful of the footsteps of the Satan for he is to you an avowed
enemy”.
This Hadith can be interpreted in another way. The Satanic control over
the minds of humans is lessened to a great extent. It can no longer
tempt people to opt for wrong doings during Ramadan. Those who still
fall prey to sins are the ones with weaker souls. Some interpretations
also depicts that the devils among the Jinn are chained, not the human
devils. |

Wrong doings during Ramadan
You must have noticed people who do not regularly pray or fast. For
them, fasting is all about refraining from food consumption. They do not
stop lying, back biting, adopts aggressive attitude followed by use of
abusive language and end up in useless fights. Most of the individuals
take a break from their regular sins during the month of Ramadan; for
instance going to night club, alcohol consumption, watching porn and
regain it as soon as Ramadan ends. These are the social evils and kill
the philosophy of fasting. Allah Almighty does not want us to stay
hungry from dawn to dusk, if we can’t avoid prohibited activities.
Ramadan is all about developing Taqwa among ourselves. |

The positive influence of chaining the
Devil
Performing Islamic obligations and staying away from sins is incredibly
easier in Ramadan. Muslims tend to perform more Nafil prayers, recite
Holy Quran, attend Taraweeh regularly, refrain from irrelevant
arguments, and lower their gaze. People also intend to do charity by
giving Zakat, arrange voluntary Iftar for travelers and poor on roadside
and Masjids. The atmosphere during Ramadan is soulful and exemplary for
all. |
