A prolific run scorer at state and county level for 15 years, Chris Rogers appeared destined to be a one-Test player when he almost lost his Cricket Victoria contract in 2012. At 34, Rogers did not appear to be in Australia's plans and his state was keen to focus on potential international players of the future. However, Rogers held on to a contract at the lower end of the scale and the following year won a recall to the Test squad at 35, when Australia needed experience for the 2013 Ashes tour following the retirements of Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey.
