Chip In Meaning

(intransitive, card games) To put into the pot the amount of chips or money required to continue.

Example:   If we all chip in, we can afford to buy a pizza for lunch.
  He chipped in twenty for the retirement gift.
  He chipped in from 20 yards for a birdie.
  He seemed to hesitate when he chipped in.
