Islamabad Zoo, situated in the heart of Pakistan’s capital city, offers visitors a delightful experience with its diverse range of animal species and serene environment. Established in 1966, the zoo spans approximately 82 acres and is home to a variety of animals, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and more. The zoo provides an opportunity for visitors to connect with nature and learn about wildlife through well-maintained enclosures and informative displays. It features attractions such as a mini zoo, a children’s park, and picnic areas, making it a popular destination for families and school groups. The Islamabad Zoo combines educational experiences with recreational activities, contributing to both the conservation of wildlife and the enjoyment of the city's residents and visitors.
Islamabad Zoo, formerly known as Marghazar Zoo, is currently closed.
Due to severe concerns about animal welfare and management, the Islamabad High Court ordered its closure in December 2020. The animals have been relocated to various sanctuaries and wildlife parks.
There are plans to renovate the zoo into a conservation center, but as of now, it is not open to the public.
