Nawab Akbar Shahbaz Khan Bugti (1927-2006) was a giant Pakistani Baloch tribal leader and politician of Dera Bugti, who served as Governor of Balochistan (1974) and Federal Interior Minister and is known as the aristocratic Tumandar of the Bugti tribe and a virulent opponent of Baloch, whom he saw as being over-extended by the federal government, leading to his tragic demise in the 2006 military operation that sparked separatist feelings. His family is an illustrious one, the son of Nawab Mehrab Khan Bugti, and the exile activists carry on the family tradition: his grandson, Brahamdagh.
