Syed Ansar Ahmed Burney is a Pakistani human and civil rights activist and lawyer. He served as Pakistan's federal minister for human rights (2007-2008). His two-decade campaign led the UAE to ban child camel jockeys in the Gulf. The Ansar Burney biography shows that he also helped free a hijacked ship's crew from Somali pirates in 2011.

He holds a master's in law from Karachi University. As a student leader in the 1970s, he was jailed three times for speaking against martial law. In Pakistani prisons, he witnessed innocent people held for decades without trial. In 1980, he founded the Prisoners Aid Society and later expanded it into the Ansar Burney Trust. The trust has freed wrongly held prisoners worldwide.
