Serving as a member of the Senate of Pakistan since March 2015, she previously held a seat in the National Assembly of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013. Shujaat's academic background includes a Master of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Karachi, which she obtained between 1972 and 1975. Before transitioning into politics, she gained experience as an anchorperson at Pakistan Television Corporation. Joining the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in 2007, Shujaat made her mark in the political arena by winning a seat in the National Assembly from Constituency NA-250 (Karachi-XII) in the 2008 general elections.
