SBP museum inaugurated

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Friday inaugurated its money museum to celebrate Pakistan’s wider economic and banking history, as well as the origins and role of the SBP.The concept of the museum was to show origin of money right from cowrie shell to credit cards.

Dr Ishrat Husain, Director of the Institute of Business Administration and former SBP governor, on the occasion praised the opening of such museum and said it was a collective effort.
 


 


He said that project was started during his tenure, which was continued by following governors. He urged the SBP officials to own the memorial.

SBP governor Shahid H. Kardar praised the efforts of the contributors for materialising the existence of the museum. He said, “money itself is a great achievement of mankind.”
 


Dr. Asma Ibrahim, Director, Museum & Art Gallery, SBP said that the collections in the museum are exceptional. She said that SBP is going to unveil Sadequain’s murals not seen by the public before this day. She said that our collections span over 2,500 years from all corners of the subcontinent.
 


The museum comprises of Coin Galleries, Stamp Gallery, Currency Gallery, History of State Bank, Governors’ Gallery, and Art Gallery. The ‘Art Gallery’ of the museum displays Sadequain’s murals and other rare paintings.
