Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al Sbah s death: A great loss of peace lovers

The News of sad demise of Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah was received by great shock and grief across the world. He was Amir of brother Muslim Arab country Kuwait from 29th September 2020 until his death on 16th December,2023. Caretake Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Anwar ul Huq Kakar visited Kuwait to express his condolence over the death of Sheikh Nawaf. He conveyed profound sympathies and condolences to new Kuwait Emir Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. During his meeting with Sheikh Al Ahmad, the Prime Minister offered his heartfelt condolence on behalf of the leadership, government and people of Pakistan. He said the Pakistani nation stands united with our Kuwaiti brothers at this time of sorrow and grief. He also said that the state of Kuwait has lost a visionary leader, who transformed Kuwait into a prosperous state. Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad would be remembered as a well-wisher and friend of Pakistan who made great contributions in advancing bilateral relations between the two brotherly states.
I, as senior research editor of the News Lark Karachi wrote a letter and conveyed a message from Mr. Jawed Malik, Chief Editor and CEO of the News Lark and other staff members conveyed our deep sorrow and grief over his death and prayed Almighty Allah for his salvation. I also visited Kuwait Consulate General on 19th December 2023, Mr. Ali Akbar. Assistant Research Editor, the News Lark, Karachi was also accompanied with me. We both signed the condolence book and met with Consul General of Kuwait and introduced the News Lark and its achievement specially its contribution towards highlighting Pakistan’s positive image bringing friendly countries and Pakistan’s youth, business and intellectual communities closer.
Pakistan needs Kuwaiti investments to boost its economy and to further enhance its trade relations with Kuwait. Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah would be remembered for his services in promoting peace in the region. He had an excellent career track record. He served as minister of interior from 1978 to 1988 and again 2003 to 2006 , he also served as minister of defence from 1988 to 1991 and deputy prime minister . He was nominated as crown prince on 7 February, 2006. He was a son of the tenth ruler of Kuwait, Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. He studied at various schools in Kuwait, among them Hamada, Sharq, Eastern and Mubarakiya.
Nawaf became one of the most senior members of the House of Sabah over the course of his life. At 25, he was appointed governor of Hawalli on 21 February 1962 and held the post until 19 March 1978. He was Minister of Interior from 1978 to 26 January 1988, when he was appointed Minister of Defense. Following the liberation of Kuwait in the Gulf War Nawaf was appointed the acting minister of labor and social affairs on 20 April 1991 and held the post until 17 October 1992.
On 16 October 1994, Nawaf was appointed deputy chief of the Kuwait National Guard and held that post until 2003.The same year, he reassumed the post of minister of the interior until an Amiri Decree was issued on 16 October 2003 making him first Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait and Minister of Interior. Nawaf played a role in supporting programs that support national unity among the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and Arab countries.
Nawaf married Sharifa Sulaiman Al-Jasem Al-Ghanim, daughter of Sulaiman Al-Jasem Al-Ghanim by his wife, Ruqayyah bint Abdullah Al-Abd Al-Razzaq. They have four sons and a daughter.
Although he is nor more but will always be remembered in the hearts of Kuwaiti as well as Pakistani people. May Allah Almighty shower His countless blessings on his grave.
