The Age of Influencers Guidance or Misguidance?
(Dr Zahoor Ahmed Danish)
In today’s world, power no longer rests only with governments, capital, or major media houses; even a mobile camera can influence millions of minds.
A short video, a viral sentence, a trending hashtag, or an emotional clip can shape people’s tastes, purchasing decisions, lifestyle, political opinions, religious understanding, and even moral standards.
This is why an influencer is no longer just a “famous person”; an influencer has become an informal teacher, opinion-maker, brand ambassador, sometimes a preacher, sometimes a journalist, and sometimes a social guide.
But the real question is:
Is this influence becoming a source of guidance or misguidance?
A good influencer can lead millions of people toward knowledge, ethics, health, skills, reading, religious awareness, social service, and a positive lifestyle. A teacher can turn YouTube into a free academy for underprivileged students. A doctor can provide accurate medical guidance through a short video. A religious content creator can speak gently about prayer, the rights of parents, lawful earnings, and guarding one’s tongue.
But on the other hand, this same world can also be dangerous.
When followers are mistaken for knowledge, views for truth, and virality for righteousness, misguidance begins. A beautiful camera, an expensive microphone, cinematic lighting, and millions of likes cannot turn a false statement into the truth.
Today, unverified remedies are being sold in the name of health, unauthenticated sayings in the name of religion, emotional propaganda in the name of politics, fake courses in the name of business, and dreams of “becoming rich overnight” in the name of success.
The greatest danger is for the younger generation.
They compare their ordinary lives with someone else’s edited lifestyle. They compare their slow progress with someone’s viral success story. They compare their appearance with filters, and their income with sponsored luxury.
The result?
Anxiety, ingratitude, inferiority complex, and unrealistic desires.
Influencers must understand that followers are not just numbers; they are human beings. Behind every view is a mind, a heart, a family, and a future. Influence is a trust, not a game.
Viewers, too, must understand that following someone is not merely pressing a button; it is opening the door of one’s mind to someone. The person you listen to every day gradually begins to speak from within you.
Remember one simple principle:
If you would not want someone to be your child’s teacher, do not make that person a part of your child’s daily feed.
The age of influencers is neither a blessing nor a trial in itself; it is a test.
Guidance exists where there is knowledge, research, honesty, modesty, transparency, service, and responsibility.
Misguidance exists where there is falsehood, showmanship, immodesty, greed, superficiality, unverified information, and blind following.
The real wisdom of this age is this:
Human beings should use the screen; the screen should not use human beings.
