Our past and future path.
(Aamir Ayoob Arain, nawabshah)
On May 28th, 1998, Pakistan
became the only Muslim country as a nuclear power on the earth. On this historic
day, a historic documentary was on aired by an international news channel in
which the image of Pakistani people was sketched. Pakistanis were shown sleeping
on footpaths, eating with pet animals, drinking water along with sheep and
buffaloes from still ponds, making their shave and hair-cut under the shabby
trees and traveling by hanging in the buses and so far and so on. In short, the
documentary ended with a critical laugh at us: “this pity nation has also
emerged to be the giant nuclear state of the world.”
Basically the documentary was aimed at making joke of we people and to darken
our face and fabric in the world. Being an optimistic I am of the view that
besides this it also conveyed a silent message of our mettle to the world. The
message is that however the rotten conditions we may be in, no matter we will
drink water from the ponds, making our shaves and hair-cut under the trees and
travelling by undue manners or whatever but when it comes to our national
interest and when we are challenged by the whole world, then, no wonder; we will
eat grass or sleep hungry but we will never retreat, we will never stare with
appealing looks and we will never turn our tail. Remember we will never brush
aside.
Granted, Pakistan of 21st century is a country transformed. The rich-poor
divide; communalism, violation of laws and the rural-urban tensions are not the
secret.
No doubt, today there is the drought of the principles, death blurs life,
fortune does not smile on us and we are living in the midst of alarms.
Surely, merit is just a charm here and for our politicians; blood is thicker
than water and the war on terror has diluted our international reputation.
But it has not the too much late yet, for, now it is the need of the hour to
send the devil to the place he deserves, lets pay the terrorist back in the same
coin and lets stand united. It is the time to do noble deeds rather than
dreaming them all the day, let’s do something when country is suffering from
undue stresses.
“ To create a country is no doubt a very difficult task but its protection is
even more difficult than it.”
Let’s unite and stand together for nothing but Pakistan.
