My Cry’of Anguish’ Over Peshawar School Attacks

(Mohammad Ahmed, Lahore)

Let’s revisit of what happened on yet another 16-12. A group of terrorists barge in & kill 140 odd children based on data provided by ISPR & Hospital.

What is sad is the fact that this horrific act does not in any way describe the agony with which these innocent children were killed and the post traumatic reaction of their grieved families. History will remember this day as one of the darkest days in History not just because of the dark outset of the attack but also because children were seen as soft victims – easy targets on war on terror where Pakistan has suffered the most.

It’s almost been a weak since the attacks & unexpectedly the grief only seems to broaden its parameters in its length and breadth as stories unfold and survivors tell the world of what happened.

It’s important to realize the fact that Pakistan has been through its worst days recently and an “attack” by its name is something not new to the Pakistanis, but such is the magnitude of this attack that it has led to the ultimate realization in every Pakistani of: are we really safe, have we achieved independence in its true sense? Slowly but surely terrorism and extremist paths have led to our homes.

Pakistanis demand to hang these terrorists to death in an attempt to respond to the Taliban aggression but is this real answer to our problems? The same Talibs who aren’t afraid of the Army bombarding their areas are being given legitimate deaths, even more, their stories getting known to the general public .Do they deserve our attention after what they’ve committed? Is this a fitting response?

“An eye for eye would make the whole world blind” – Gandhi. By legitimizing deaths aren’t we supporting terrorism? Please let me quote that according to my dictionary fellow humans do not have the right to take lives of another, be it terrorists. The underlying question should be to recognize our mistakes in terms of our sadist policies take responsibilities for our actions and move forward. Perhaps the only way to move forward is to accept what wrongs we have committed.

Blaming India or Taliban alone is just like blaming a spoilt brat for the wrongs he has committed. If Pakistan has finally awaken out of its desensitization its important to also blame our parents – the policy makers who to this day have no idea of how to accommodate the monsters rising from the past.

According Mr.Saleem Safi , a target of one agency is often an ally of another . If this is true then no matter how ruthless a punishment is agreed upon, this age of Taliban would realistically be never over

Let me explain why this punishment of hanging till death is not a good idea.
I have witnessed children challenging Taliban and confidently letting them know of their atrocious ideas of making them suffer. Think about the children who witnessed the attack , every single one wants to join the Army ,Now I don’t know whether it’s a ploy by the media or Army to send a message to the enemies that we aren’t afraid or what but if it’s true then in reality it’s their testimony to live a life based on revenge .
Do we want this for our children? We should place efforts instead to make them love each other and educate them about what’s right for them under the circumstances. This idea is prompting our children to believe that killing someone or threatening someone in an attempt to take revenge is not wrong. Let’s base this argument in perspective of deontological and teleological perspective, no matter however you look at it, killing is wrong. Our pens and books should be the real answer to all of this.

But a realization of eliminating the difference between good and bad Taliban has been eliminated for good, but one wonders if this is yet another policy daunting our country. If there are any good Taliban, should we really kill them, if yes then who gave us this right? Would they haunt us for our evils like 16-12? Is history repeating itself yet again, have we learned nothing from the past?

Also I feel calling this attack as “mini 9-11” is a shameless entitlement granted to the incident. 9-11 was destruction out of nowhere whereas this is nail to the coffin known as Pakistanis. It’s an imposed war on us, we have suffered the unthinkable and thus I feel some things in this sad incident require our attention. To explain the magnitude in terms of 9-11 is something we should abandon. The world understands its magnitude and its time we do as well.

Perhaps the difference between unity & uniformity is as ever blurred in our minds as ever , before continuing with my point I must clear I’m NOT A SUPPORTER OF MAULANA ABDUL AZIZ OR LAL MASJID and I strongly feel he should’ve condemned Taliban but I also feel , he had a point. Taliban are monsters created by us and it would be arrogant of us if we do not realize our blunders in policy making and not hold people accountable who were responsible for creating such policies.
