Pakistani Media Industry as you witness today does
not appear the same decades ago. There used to be one black and white TV
and limited entertainment options. People were happy and content with
their simple life. Technology has drastically changed the Media Industry
of Pakistan. In this fast moving world, the credit for the innovation in
the media industry goes to the hard work and dedication.
Here are some of those evolutions that have changed Pakistani Media
Industry; for better or for worse.

1. “This is Radio Pakistan”
Years will come and pass by but the charisma of these golden words will
remain the same. It was midnight on 13th August 1947, when for the first
time these historical words “This is Radio Pakistan” was uttered by
Zahoor Aazar in English, and Mustafa Ali Hamdani in Urdu. What an
emotional moment it certainly was! |

2. Television in Pakistan
In an exhibition at Mazar e Quaid on 16th September 1955; for the first
time ever a short circuit television for entertainment purpose was
placed for audience to witness the miracle invention. The event was
organized by the American Consulate in Karachi. |

3. First ever Broadcast of Pakistan Television
The historical moment that laid the foundation of electronic media
industry was the broadcast of Pakistan Television Corporation on 26th
November 1964. Pakistan was proud to announce its national TV and since
then the media industry never looked back. The craze for TV programs
increased due to some popular PTV shows. |

4. First TV Serial of Pakistan
The emergence of entertainment in Pakistan occurred back in 70’s, 80’s,
and 90’s when some interesting PTV dramas made its mark. We all are
familiar with Tanhaiyaan, Fifty Fifty, and Dhoop Kinaray but very few of
us are aware of the fact that this all started with the very first
Serial of Pakistan titled “Khuda Ki Basti”. Within no time this serial
to able to win the hearts of all. The cast of the serial includes Qazi
Wajid, Behroz Sabzwari, Munawwar Sultana and Zaheen Tahira. It is said
that the roads used to get vacant and people used to rush to their
houses to watch it. |

5. First Pakistani Film
Subcontinent has produced various masterpieces, but “Teri Yaad” was the
first feature film after the partition of India and Pakistan, which was
released on 7th august 1948 on the eve of Eid. The movie starred
Jahangir, Sardar Muhammad, Najma, Nazar along with Asha Posely and Nasir
Khan, brother of well- known Indian actor Dilip Kumar who travelled all
the way from India to portray his talent.

6. Pop Music Enters Pakistan
Music what you hear today is the refined version of 70’s pop. Mr. Anwar
Maqsood and Mr. Shoaib Mansoor launched the Benjamin sisters who brought
pop music in Pakistan in 1972. Followed by Nazia Hasan and Zohaib Hasan,
the duo got immense popularity countrywide.
This also gave birth to renowned pop bands like Vital Signs, Junoon, and
Awaz.

7. First Private TV Channel
In 1990, STN under an agreement with the private company (Interflow)
started the first ever private TV channel of Pakistan, Network
Television Marketing (NTM). NTM came as a breath of fresh air to the
Pakistani viewers due to its fresh and innovative programming.

8. First 3D Cinema in Pakistan
Another greatest achievement in the field of media and entertainment of
our country are the emergence of 3D cinemas. The first ever 3D cinema of
Pakistan is Atrium Cinema launched in Karachi on 31st of December 2010.
Owned by Mandviwala entertainment, Atrium opened the gates to some
quality family entertainment time giving a boost to the drowning film
industry of Pakistan. |
