Pakistan
is blessed with so much beauty that it is almost unimaginable that we
should have to look anywhere else. The rarest and most exotic birds in
the entire world grace our shores. Some have disappeared over time due
to loss of natural habitat, while others continue to drop in from time
to time, bringing with them their magnificent melange of colors and
unique features for us to savor.

Shaheen Falcon
The Shaheen Falcon needs no introduction. It is a non-migratory bird
that is found on our shores. It has long been a national symbol of
Pakistan, especially associated with the PAF. Falcons are fierce hunters
and their razor sharp talons are made to shred. |
|
Crimson Sunbird
This nectar loving sunbird is found throughout the Indian sub-continent.
It buzzes around flowers flashing it’s brilliant myriad of colors. |
|
Grey-Hooded Warbler
Found in the forest regions in Pakistan, the grey-hooded warbler is
famous for its unique warbling. It is small and quick but not easy to
pick-up if you’re interested in bird-watching. |
|
Red-Billed Leiothrix
The Red-billed Leiothrix is often found in captivity and is a popular
pet. The olive green coat with orange, yellow, red and black thrown into
the mix, make this 6-inch bird an amazing sight. |
|
Red Collared Dove
The Red Turtle Dove is a common sight in Punjab where it makes its home
in the summer months. In the sunlight it is hard to pick up just how
amazing its colors are, but it really is an amazing bird.

|
Monal Pheasant
This shiny specimen is found in the Himalayan region of Northern
Pakistan. This largish bird is regarded as having the brightest and most
colorful plumage in the entire bird kingdom.
|
|
Khalij Pheasant
Another bird from the pheasant family, the Khalij pheasants are also
found around the foothills of the Himalayas up North. It is one of the
birds on this list that are close to extinction.

|
Coppersmith Barbet
These fruit eating, whiskered barbets are found in Pakistan in huge
numbers. The tuk tuk sound they make is quite annoying but the beauty of
the bird is undeniable. |
|
Ruddy Shelduck
Native to Africa, these ducks migrate to Pakistan during the winters
where they breed. A popular game bird, a flock of the shelduck can be
often seen flying over the landscape during migration. |
|
Long-tailed Minivet
The orange and black bird is the male. The yellow and black bird is the
female. A great combo if you ask me. |
