In a devastating turn of events, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck the province of Herat in northwestern Afghanistan on Saturday, resulting in the loss of over a thousand lives. This seismic disaster left a trail of destruction in its wake, causing significant damage to infrastructure and triggering aftershocks that reverberated through the neighboring provinces of Badghis and Farah.

The death toll from the earthquake has now surpassed 1,000, with a staggering 600 homes reduced to rubble in 12 villages across Herat’s Zinda Jan and Ghoryan districts. More than 4,200 people have directly affected by this tragedy, leaving them in dire need of assistance. Search and rescue operations are currently underway to provide relief and support to those affected.
