Psyllium Husk

Psyllium husk (other names: ispaghol and ispaghula husk) is the portion of seeds of a of Plantago ovata, a plant belong to South Asian countries (Pakistan, India and Bangladesh). In Urdu, psyllium husk is called 'Ispahol Ki Bhoosi' and 'Ispaghol Ka Chilka'. It is known for its health benefits for stomach and digestion problems.


Psyllium seed husk is a source of soluble dietary fiber. It is indigestible and widely used as a home remedy for constipation and diarrhea. Psyllium seeds are also used as a supplement to improve GI transit. Recent researches disclose that using this husk also lowers cholesterol and helps control some types of diabetes.


It is also used in gluten-free baking especially in bread to make it less crumble.
