........................ ARTICLE . In recent times, societies across the globe have faced a concerning issue: the increase in crime rates. While there are many reasons for this trend, and they can vary depending on the place, this article aims to explain some of the important factors that are causing this worrying situation.
Crime rates are rising in many nations, and this trend has negative effects on society in many ways. Due to increased unemployment and poverty, more people were looking for ways to get money without thinking about whether they were engaging in legal or illegal/unlawful activity. There are several factors that contribute to criminal activity in addition to poverty.
We are all rushing around in this busy world looking for money by engaging in various activities, but when someone is living in poverty, they choose to engage in any activity to make money, even when they are aware that it is illegal. However, in that circumstance, when they are paid for engaging in criminal activity, they do not hesitate to do so. This is because they require money to function in society.
When we ask any criminal why they take other ways, the first thing they say is a desire for money. To avoid these behaviours, our country should first address the issue of poverty. The government should provide free education to all citizens.
There are numerous types of crime, including personal, property, hate, and white collar offences. Personal crimes are crimes committed against a specific person. They consist of homicide, rape, robbery, and other violent crimes. If a person wants to exact revenge on another person, this evolves into criminal activity. For instance, if a family has a dispute with another family over an inheritance, this results in criminal activity like murder and kidnapping. Or, if a man has a relationship with a woman and she rejects him, he may commit a crime like rape or dump acid on her, among other such crimes. They started it, but subsequently got into a fight and eventually it developed into serious crimes. Even though the government tried to stop the crimes by taking some action, it had no real impact. , and eventually it developed into serious crimes.
The issue of crime against women affects the entire world. Women’s safety is a major concern around the world. In the course of their lifetimes, one in three women worldwide will be subjected to physical or sexual abuse. According to this, this problem roughly affects over one billion women. The most common sorts of violence against women are rape, domestic violence, sexual assault, and murder. The bulk of violent crimes are brought on by silent retribution, dowry issues, and forced prostitution. Anyone, regardless of caste, religion, creed, or ethnicity, is susceptible to violence against women.
The high rate of crime against women is caused by a variety of variables. Gender inequality is one of the causes. Women are frequently perceived as men's inferiors, which makes them vulnerable to violence. Women may also be less likely to disclose crimes against them because they fear retaliation or don't think their complaints will be taken seriously. In addition, increased rates of crime against women may result from poverty and a lack of resources. Living in poverty may increase a woman's propensity to engage in dangerous behaviours, such as prostitution, which might increase her vulnerability to violence. Last but not least, alcohol and drugs are frequently used in crimes against women. A person is more likely to commit a crime against a woman if they have used drugs or alcohol, which can impair their judgement and enhance their hostility.
Theft is the most common crime in Pakistan, According to data collected by the National Crime Records Bureau. When we think of crime, the first thing that comes to mind is theft. We may dismiss it as a minor offence, yet it is the starting point for many other crimes. Theft includes robbing and stealing from other people’s homes. The wealth disparity between poor and rice drives society to engage in crime.
The young generation, comprising both boys and girls, is becoming drug addicts as a result of the frustration and unhappiness at educational institutions.
In Pakistan, 1200 boys and girls are becoming addicted to smoking every day, and every year, about one lakh people, die in the country due to this malpractice. More than 5,000 people are admitted to hospitals every day, Pakistan vernacular media, Daily Khabrain underlined, citing a report. Pakistan is currently facing the worst time since its creation as the country is witnessing a food crisis, devaluation of the rupee, electricity shortage, and attacks.
Earlier, in the first week of January, Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho admitted that the number of street crimes increased in the year 2023 as compared to the previous year, according to The Express Tribune. And even now, in 2023, the crime rate across the South-Asian country remains persistent and has been witnessing an upward trend. Amid the depreciation of the value of the Pakistani rupee, street crime increased in Pakistan, especially in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, according to Business Brecorder.
The rise in street crime is a symptom of a deeper malaise in Pakistan’s society, stemming from issues of growing inequality, poverty and unemployment.
