As you sow, so shall you reap

(Afshan Younus, Karachi)

Sometimes in our daily routine we see such incidents which stick to our mind and we are unable to forget it. Similar thing happened a few days back when I was standing at bus stop. A bus stopped there and an old man and a young boy of age about 18 got off from bus. Old man, by mistake, hit the young man when they were getting off from the bus. As he got hit, the young man slapped the old man.

I was stunned, as there was a big difference in their ages and they were hit by mistake. The old man didn’t say a single word as his poverty and weakness made him speechless and helpless. His wet eyes were so painful that I find hard to look at them.

I tried to get that incident out of my mind but it penetrated more and more in my thoughts. It made me think so many factors which I never think before being representative of new generation it was more touching for me.

It’s not the rare matter, these days this rude behavior of youth has become very common. I just wonder what has made youth so discourteous that they even don’t care of respect of elders. What are the factors behind this rapid change in the attitudes?

One of the major reasons may be the education which a child gets from his family. This learning of home deeply influences the personality building of an individual. Now parents don’t have enough time to spend with children and to teach them goods and bad manners. It’s the foremost responsibility of parents to edify children about values and norms.

After home children spend their maximum time in schools, the duty of a teacher is not only to educate children but also to build good attitudes. Teachers being spiritual parents have great responsibility to enlighten the minds and souls of their students.

In the end, youngsters should realize this fact that they are not supposed to remain in the same age group. One day they will also get old, and that day they will face the same or even worse behavior of their young generation.

All the girls and guys please do respect your parents, teachers, and all other elders as this behavior will pay off in your old age. So sow what you are willing to reap.
