Many people assume that sufficient will power and motivation on the part of smokers, or legal and social sanctions from non-smokers such as prohibiting smoking in public facilities), can reduce or eliminate the smoking habit. judging from current statistics,however,efforts to motivate smokers to quit, to prohibit smoking in certain areas, and to regulate advertising by the tobacco industry have not been successful in achieving the goal.WHY DO SMOKERS CONTINUE TO SMOKE? the answer may lie in the psychological effects of smoking. even though smokers report feeling more relaxed during smoking, cigarettes act as a stimulant. Hear rate,for instances, increases during smoking. these effects point to the fact that nicotine is a drug.it has been proposed that nicotine is(1)An addictive agent or(2)A pleasure enhancer. people smoke because they are physically addicted to nicotine.there are two types of smokers: normal intake smokers And heavy intake smokers. Irritability and increased eating,appear when smokers do not receive their "dose"of nicotine.second,smoking does not reduce anxiety or calm the nerves. but not smoking increases anxiety and produces withdrawal reactions. smokers can tolerate less stress when they are deprived of cigarettes, smokers do not perform better under stress than nonsmokers. stress seems to deplete body nicotine, so that smoking is necessary to maintain the nicotine level. If nicotine addiction maintains cigarette smoking then supplying smokers with nicotine in a non tobacco product may reduce the need to smoke We all know the health risks of smoking, but that doesn’t make it any easier to kick the habit The nicotine in cigarettes offers a quick and reliable way to boost your outlook, relieve stress, and unwind. To successfully quit smoking, you’ll need to not only change your behavior and cope with nicotine withdrawal symptoms, but also find healthier ways to manage your moods.
