Sadiq Khan calls on UK govt to make ‘full, formal apology’ for Jalianwala Bagh massacre [The Nation] 06 Dec, 2017

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called on the United Kingdom government to make a full and formal apology for April 19, 1939 Jalianwala Bagh massacre . On his official twitter account, Khan wrote about his visit to Jalianwala Bagh memorial and gardens where he paid his respect. Today I visited the Jallianwala Bagh memorial and gardens and paid my respects to all those who lost their lives in the horrific Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 13 April 1919. On April 19, 1939 British troops led by General Reginald Dyer fired machine guns at unarmed crowd. The civilians, mostly Sikhs, were gathered in Bagh for Baisakhi celebrations and to protest arrest and deportation of two national leaders, Satya Paul and Dr. Saifudin Kitchlew. According to British government 370 people were killed and 1200 were injured but other sources place the number of killed well over 1,000.
