Constructive Criticism

(Danish Maqsood, Lahore)

Common man in Pakistan does not want dictatorship. This was proved in General Elections. People voted for a change to see democratic leaders in the parliament. So the result of Elections brought a new ray of hope that now basic problems such as law and order situation, unemployment , illiteracy will be addressed.

But sadly none of these issues got resolved. Coalition government was too busy in handling judicial crisis. PPP AND PML-N failed to resolve their differences and Nawaz Sharif opted to sit in the opposition. Thus idea of coalition government working for prosperity of Pakistan ended in smoke.

Despite Musharraf resigning from his post, the number of suicide attacks have increased not only in Swat and Frontier region but also in big cities. So people are really confused. They ask themselves a question; Has Musharraf really gone?. Present government is continuing on the past policies and we do not see any new policy. Just like in the past regime, American forces have continually violated Pakistan’s sovereignty by attacking people in Pakistani territory. Apart from law and order situation, we have seen inflation sky rocketing in the past six months. Rupee is at its all time low in international market. Foreign Exchange reserves are gradually on decline. Thus the elected government has so far failed to provide relief of any sort to general public.

So in these circumstances, every Pakistani has a right to criticize the government. But it should be constructive criticism. Democratic leaders should not mind this because it is essence of democracy that elected representatives have to keep in mind the aspirations of general public.

It is duty of public to keep reminding the government that for what purpose it was elected.
