World After Bush

(Danish Maqsood, Lahore)

George Bush is about to leave the White House. Now the big question is who will replace him?John McCain(Republican) or Barack Obama(Democrat). As a pakistani, I am interested in knowing which candidate is better for our country?

Hearing the presidential debates of both McCain and Obama, I cannot be optimistic. Both candidates have talked about using force against Pakistan to combat terrorism . The only difference is that Obama talked more openly against Pakistan. Otherwise both candidates have same stance on the issue.

The situation is no different when it comes to debates of Vice Presidential candidates Sarah Palin (Republican) and Joe Biden (Democrat). In their view, Pakistan is the most dangerous country for world peace.

So the presidential candidates may have different plans to tackle internal issues like financial crisis, tax cuts, insurance or abortion etc for their own country. But when it comes to Pakistan or any other country, America’s foreign policy will not change a great deal irrespective of the fact who is in power Barack Obama or John McCain.
