The latest edition of the Guinness World Records book has just been published, and as you might expect it features a wealth of strange, fascinating and arguably pointless records within its pages.

The 2012 edition of the book, which is now in its 57th year, includes such illustrious record holders as Rob Hull, owner of the world’s largest collection of Daleks (571), Christine ‘the Duchess’ Walton and her record-breaking finger nail (10 foot 2 inches) and the owner of the world’s largest afro.

Other records featured in the weighty tome range from the world’s most pierced man, the longest tongue and the world’s fastest wedding chapel, alongside the usual selection of quickest, largest and strongest animals, humans and machines.

The Huffington Post collected some of the best and silliest records in the gallery, below:

1) Skipping Dogs

The record for the most dogs skipping on a rope is 13, achieved by Uchida Geinousha’s ‘Super Wan Wan Circus’ in Japan.

2) Exterminate!

Rob Hull from Doncaster, UK, is the proud owner of the largest collection of Daleks (571 different models). The Dalek empire itself probably has more than that, but so far its existence has not been verified by the Guinness officials. So no record.

3) Fastest On The Snow

Cecilie Skog has completed the ‘Three Poles’ challenge in the quickest ever time. (That’s reaching the North and South Pole as well as the top of Mount Everest, if you have to ask). She was inducted into the record book in 2011.

4) Youngest Person To Fly Solo Round The World

Barrington Irving is the youngest person to have flown solo around the world. He was 23 when he completed the feat.

5) World’s Most Useless Typist?

Christine ‘The Dutchess’ Walton from Las Vegas, USA, is the proud owner of the world’s longest fingernails. The nails, measuring 10ft 2in (309.8cm) on her left hand and 9ft 7in (292.1cm) on her right hand, are featured in the new Guinness World Records 2012 book.

6) Fastest Wedding Chapel

Introducing ‘The Best Man’, a 1940s fire truck that’s been converted into a wedding chapel. The creation of the Rev. Darrell Best from Illinois, USA, the wedding chapel is capable of reaching a speed 99 km/h (62 mi/h) and is included in the the new Guinness World Records 2012 as the world’s fastest such facility.

7) Afro

Aevin Dugas from New Orleans, USA, is the proud owner of the largest natural afro with a circumference measuring 4 ft. 4 in (1.32 m), as featured in the new Guinness World Records 2012 edition.
